CANCER RESEARCH CONCERT 2019

The band’s annual Christmas concert for Yorkshire Cancer Research took place in St Peter & St Paul’s Church, Pickering on Sunday Dec 15th.
The program got off to a rousing start with Cy Coleman’s ‘Come Follow The Band’ from the musical Barnum. Next we featured an arrangement by Matt, our percussionist, of Billy Joel’s ‘And So It Goes’. ‘It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ was followed by a carol from Germany, Vom Himmel Hoch Da Komm Ich Her [From Heaven Above, To Earth I Come] arranged by Matt & Mike. To end the first set we played Jan De Haan’s fantastic arrangement of seasonal tunes ‘A Christmas Suite’.
The Training Band then entertained us with some Christmas numbers before our guests for the afternoon Malton Rock Choir took to the stage with a selection of seasonal songs & carols.
Our annual awards were presented to Jess Bointon for most improved junior player, & Angela Durrant received the most improved player in the senior band. Lauren Hawkins was awarded the trophy for work behind the scenes. The Player’s Player Of The Year award was presented to Beth Breckon.
This year the Training Band members joined with everyone for the final part of the concert playing ‘Little Donkey’, ‘White Christmas’, & ‘I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day’. We ended the afternoon with ‘A Christmas Medley’.
The afternoon’s concert raised £545 for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Thank you all for your support & generosity.
