KIRK THEATRE 2019

OUT OF THIS WORLD

The theme of our annual concert at Pickering's Kirk Theatre on Sept 7th this year was 'Out Of This World'.

To celebrate 50 years since man first landed on the moon the program was filled with music linked to the moon and stars and all things interplanetary .

Beginning with 2001: A Space Odyssey we shot off for a galaxy far, far away, meeting Darth Vader, Tarkin & Princess Leia before lighting up the universe with Star Wars. After Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival & Mancini's Moon River we had a visit from Elliot & E.T. (who wanted to phone home) leading us into the Flying Theme From E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. David Bowie's Life On Mars featured next with Let The Sunshine & Aquarius completing the first half.

The opener for part 2 was Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds, & after a scene from the film 'The Glenn Miller Story' we played Moonlight Serenade. Wandrin' Star, The Air That I Breathe (Hollies), Lucy In The Sky with Diamonds flew by & it was time for Elton John's Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me. After a visit to the planet Jupiter (Holst) our journey through space was over all too soon. The Evening Hymn & Sunset brought the evenings intergalactic journey to a fitting close.

Once again we are very grateful to Whitby Amature Dramatic Society for their contributions to the performance. We must give a special thank you to our compere for the evening Kate Butler.

Thanks everyone for a concert that was truely out of this world
