CONCERT AT MEMORIAL HALL APRIL 12TH

Post date: May 12, 2014 6:49:34 PM

Around 90 people came along on Saturday 12th April and enjoyed an evening of music played by the senior and junior bands. The senior band conducted by Mike Breckon played a march to start proceedings, followed by ‘Morning has broken’ featuring Jacob Konya and Jessica Eddon on Cornet. A John Denver piece called Perhaps Love’ arranged as a Euphonium duet went down especially well with the audience, and showed off the talents of Beth Breckon and Alex Eddon. The junior band conducted by Tanya Rex played 4 pieces and showed their abilities in tackling range of music. Well known pieces such as ‘Pachelbel’s canon’ were performed in the second half. Finally the two bands joined together to play an arrangement of The Beatles 'Yellow Submarine' and finished with a rousing piece called Chorale and Rock Out. Refreshments were provided at the interval and the audience were treated to excellent home baking and tea or coffee.
Chairman Ken Chadwick gave a vote of thanks to the helpers who sold raffle tickets, collected entry fees and made the teas and coffees, as well as those who donated raffle prizes and who had prepared the home baking. He pointed out that the that the future was with the junior band and after hearing their excellent performance felt that there were very good prospects of these players developing into quality players and moving into the senior band.
