CANCER RESEARCH CONCERT

Post date: Dec 21, 2017 10:54:26 AM

This years annual concert for Yorkshire Cancer Research was held on Sunday December 17th in St Peter & St Paul's Church Pickering.
After a bright 'n' breezy start with the march 'Florentiner', Lauren performed the cornet solo 'Bless This House'. Chloe & Sam were featured as standup soloists in Paul Lovatt Cooper's 'Fire In The Blood' followed by carol singing from the audience. After 'Mack The Knife' the first half ended with the theme to the film 'We Were Soldiers'. This hymnlike melody begins with a lone Repiano cornet player (well done Jenny) & also features the 2nd & 3rd cornets (Jack, Ines, Bethany & our guest player for the afternoon Cliff Hicks) in the Last Post.
Rachel Anderson was the guest soloist for this year, singing a selection of favourite songs & Christmas songs. There was one surprise however as she was joined in a duet by her father in law, our very own Brian.
The training band performed a number of pieces including 'Frosty The Snowman' & 'Rudolph'.
Helen Eddon was awarded the trophy for most improved player in the training band, with Jenny receiving the most improved player in the senior band.
Brian was presented with the award for work behind the scenes. The 'Player Of The Year' trophy was won by Helen Bointon. There was one further award which was donated by new President Mr Chris Bramley & given to Mike.
The second half flew by, with the band performing 'The Boars Head Carol', a German carol ' Suesser die Glocken nie klingen, followed by a lively 'Christmas Twins' & ending with Sandy Smith's 'A Caribbean Christmas'.
The concert raised £583 for Yorkshire cancer Research. Thank you one & all.
