THE LAST POST CONCERT

Post date: Dec 9, 2014 11:00:41 AM

The Last Post Concert in Pickering Parish Church on Thursday 13th November was greatly enjoyed by all who attended. After some last- minute reorganisation due to illness, Pam Robb & Ken Chadwick were given the Queen's Shilling & reported for duty doing some readings & poetry from the era throughout the night. Our thanks to them for stepping into the breach at such short notice.
The band performed some stirring patriotic military music to begin the evening & continued with a selection of popular tunes from the early part of the 20th century.
Beth sang along with the band in Alexander's Ragtime Band,When This Lousy War Is Over, Take Me Back To Dear Old Blighty & The Scarlett & The Blue (a recruiting song from 1914).
Rachel Anderson accompanied by Vivien Wilcock on piano sang Now Is The Hour, You Made Me Love You, A Long Trail Awinding & The Only Girl In The World during the program.
Pickering Beck Isle Museum produced a 'pop-up' display about the war's effects on the local community.
The concert also included community singing, & Land Of Hope & Glory.
As the concert was entitled The Last Post we ended the evening with an arrangement of The Evening Hymn & Last Post featuring Lauren as the lone trumpeter.
Refreshments were served afterwards which together with the raffle raised £260 for The Royal British Legion.
Grateful thanks to all who attended or performed.
