SPRING CONCERT

Post date: Apr 20, 2015 10:45:17 AM

Saturday's concert went very well although audience numbers were slightly down on last year.
The band opened with High School Cadets followed by Carillon, & the Open All Hours TV theme. Two Beatles compositions (Thingumbob & Hey Jude) were next & to conclude our 1st set we played one of Ron Goodwin's great film scores , Where Eagles Dare.
The juniors followed hard on our heels with half a dozen pieces finishing with their favourite piece the theme from Wallace & Gromit.
After a cup of tea & a sticky bun the second half began with Major Bogey (only slightly related to the Colonel). Our 3 young 2nd Cornet players -Jenny, Chloe & Steph- then entertained everyone with their rendition of Sandpaper Ballet, before we played 2 Renaisance Dances written by Susato.
After thanks by President Ken Chadwick to all who helped with teas etc, the juniors swelled our ranks as we played Peter Graham's arr. of Hine E Hine concluding the evening with W.Rimmer's composition which every band in the country must have played at some time, Slaidburn.
