SPRING CONCERT 2016

Post date: Apr 25, 2016 10:28:58 AM

On Saturday 23rd April around 90 people attended our Spring Concert in Pickering Memorial Hall & enjoyed an evening of music by the band, the training band, & a group of young brass players from Pickering Community Junior School.
The band began the evening with music from Lord of the dance, followed by Largo from the New World Symphony which featured our four young cornet players, Jenny Winter, Chloe Brown, Stephanie Henson, Bethany Dadswell and Sam Lee on tenor horn. Elbow's 'One Day Like This' was next, with Punchinellie bringing the first set to a close.
The training band led by Tanya Rex then played four pieces from their repertoire. The music from various parts of the world were enjoyed by the audience.
The Junior school players led by their brass teacher Jeannette Kendal were itching to get started. This group of eleven played 'We will rock you' accompanied by foot tapping & handclapping from everyone in the hall. This was followed by several duets some of which were played over backing tracks. Some of these pupils had only been playing since the start of this academic year, but the music they produced was amazing. Jeannette explained that she had started in the Junior Band and how with practice these new players were also capable of following in her footsteps.
Following refreshments during the interval the training band combined with the seniors to play two pieces. The first Alan Fernie's 'Prismatic Light' was followed by the theme music from James Bond. The Junior School players then joined the two bands for the finale, the hymn tune 'Deep Harmony'. Mike gave a vote of thanks to the three tutors of the training band, Lauren, Ian & Tanya, with a special mention for Jeannette Kendal for training and bringing the young players from the school.
Thank you everyone for supporting our concert.
