LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS

Post date: Sep 12, 2016 10:11:14 AM

On Saturday night the 10th of September the band presented a 'proms style' concert at the Kirk Theatre in Pickering.
This years program featured original brass band compositions along with traditional british music by british composers.
We kicked off with Alan Fernie's Prismatic Light, followed by 2 movements from Handel's Music For The Royal Fireworks. Greensleeves came next & then Vaughan Williams' English Folk Song Suite. After John Rutter's Gaelic Blessing & some of Sir Arthur Sullivan's tunes in Edrich Siebert's Salute To Sullivan, the 1st half ended with Bilsdale Fantasia which is based on the hymn 'Ewe Cote' & penned by local composer & arranger Dick Blackford.
During the program, members of the theatre sang a selection of music from the shows & then joined with the band for the remainder of the concert, leading the audience during the community singing. See The Conquering Hero (which seemed to stump both choir & audience) & Rule Brittania were the first two items. You'll Never Walk Alone, I Vow To Thee My Country & Jerusalem followed & were sung by all with great gusto. The big finish was Pomp & Circumstance No1 (Land Of Hope & Glory) accompanied by lots of flag waving. Of course we had to do it again as by this time the audience were just getting warmed up.
Thanks to theatre singers, accompanist Clive Wass & all band members for a another great night.
